FRIDAY 2-1 +4.65 UNITS

Here are today early selections. I will be back later with the mid-day action as well as the late games!!! Let me know what you think.

5 Units Seton Hall -1.5 -107 (LOST)
icon_mad.gif

The Hall (R: 5-4 SU, 5-3 ATS) beating Pitt wasn't a miracle on Monday. It was team defense and Andre Barrett, who wouldn't let Seton Hall lose. The senior point guard had 20 points, including the winning free throw with 9.6 seconds left in the second overtime, six assists and no turnovers in 49 minutes in the Pirates' 68-67 victory. Pittsburgh and Seton Hall came into the game ranked 1-2 in the Big East in scoring defense and both lived up to that stat, finishing regulation tied at 57. The Pirates, also got 10 points each from Kelly Whitney and J.R. Morris. Golden (H: 8-5 SU, 4-6 ATS) Domers' Chris Thomas and Chris Quinn finally played well together, and that was enough to beat Connecticut. Thomas scored 22 of his season-high 31 points in the second half and Quinn added 17 points to lead the Irish to an 80-74 victory over the Huskies on Monday, ending a three-game losing streak. Thomas had been in a slump for six games before scoring 23 in a loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, when Quinn went 0-for-8. Against Connecticut, though, everything changed. Torrian Jones added 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Irish (11-9, 5-5 Big East). Enough sparring, it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty in the Big East. The Hall showed they can play with anyone on Monday. Notre Dame ended their three game losing streak in an impressive manner, as well. Bottom line is to look for that Hall defense to slow down the Irish who have melted in the strong defensive heat before.

7 Units Rice -9 -106 (LOST)
icon_mad.gif

There should be plenty of offense in this WAC game. Tulsa (7-14, 3-9 in WAC) is terrible on the road at 1-10 SU/2-7 ATS. Tulsa is 0-4 SU/ATS the last four games and is off a 78-66 loss at UTEP. Anthony Price led Tulsa with 14 points, and Tulsa's leading scorer, G Jason Parker, was held to eight points on 3-of-14 shooting. Tulsa shoots 44% as a team but allows 73 ppg on the road, while run-and-gun Rice averages 78 ppg at home. Tulsa has 6’-2” senior Jason Parker (18 ppg) and 6’-6” junior forward Jarius Glenn (12 ppg, 6 rpg). Rice (15-7 SU, 9-7 ATS) likes to run, with 6’-6” junior Michael Harris (18 ppg, 9 rpg), 6’-4” junior Jason McKrieth (15 ppg, 5 rpg), and senior point guard Rashid Smith (5.7 apg). Rice plays its best ball at home (9-2 SU, 5-2 ATS) and the Owls lost 74-68 at Tulsa last month. Tulsa is 3-0 SU/ATS the last three meetings with Rice; but look for a high scoring game and the home team to get another home 'W'.

3 Units Penn State +11 -106 (LOST)
icon_mad.gif

Aaron Johnson came off the bench for Penn State (9-11, 3-6) to lead the team with 28 points and 15 rebounds. His point total tied the rest of the team but it wasn't good enough as the Nittany (R: 2-6 SU, 3-5 ATS) lost to Indiana 75-56 this week. The Hoosiers jumped out to a 24-6 lead early in the game by hitting seven of its first eight 3-point attempts leading to a 39-17 lead at the half. In a surprise, Northwestern used a stingy matchup zone defense and timely shooting down the stretch to earn their second straight upset win, 40-39, over Purdue on Wednesday night. Northwestern coach Bill Carmody called his team's defensive performance in the previous win over the Wisconsin Badgers their best of the season. But this game was even better. The Wildcats held Purdue (15-8, 5-5) to season lows in points (39) and just 34 percent shooting. Penn State won the first meeting 63-61 so we can expect another close, low scoring game as the Cats continue on their mini-winning streak.

5 Units B.Y.U. -1 +102 (WON)
blueguy.gif

A couple of Mountain West money-burners meet: BYU is 3-7 ATS on the road, while Wyoming is 4-14 ATS overall! Wyoming is stuck in last place in the MWC (2-6), but while they are 9-12 SU overall, the Cowboys are strong at home (9-3 SU, 4-6 ATS). Wyoming may struggle under the boards this game, however, as they lack height and that is BYU's strength. The BYU Cougars (14-7 SU, 10-8 ATS) shoot 48% as a team, behind star players 6’-7” senior Mark Bigelow (13 points pg) and 6’-11” senior center Rafael Araujo (18 ppg, 57% FGs, 10 rpg). But BYU is just 3-7 SU on the road where it is getting outscored by a 68-64 average. Poor Wyoming has lost 8 of 10 games and a lack of offense is the problem. Wyoming has a decent backcourt of 5’-11” junior Jason Straight (14 ppg) and 6’-2” senior David Adams (10 ppg), but Wyoming carries a 1-10-1 ATS run into this game! On January 19 BYU used its inside game to rip Wyoming, 78-64 at home and covered. While they have been shaky on the road, BYU should get the road win here as they match up well with the home team.

5 Units Indiana State +6 -110 (LOST)
icon_mad.gif

You won't see a lot of scoring in this Missouri Valley Conference game. Indiana State shoots 41% from the field averaging 56 ppg on the road, while Illinois State outscores teams by a 65-61 average at home. Indiana State (8-13) is just 2-7 SU (though 6-2 ATS) on the road and they have only one double-digit scorer in 6'-5" sophomore G Damian Moss (15 ppg). They really have only two decent players in Moss and 6'-7" junior Amani Daanish. The Illinois State Redbirds (6-15 SU, 7-11 ATS) aren't much better, with few scoring options, led by 6’-8” sophomore Marcus Arnold (13 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and junior guard Trey Guidry (13 ppg). Last month Indiana State won 56-49 at home and this game will also be close with little scoring.

10 Units Texas -6.5 -104 (LOST)
fishthit.gif

Texas (R: 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS) is on a 5-game winning streak and making noises from atop the Big-12. This week, Kenny Taylor scored 18 points on six 3-pointers and Texas beat the Baylor Bears 84-58 Tuesday night. Kenton Paulino added 15 points with four 3-pointers for Texas and P.J. Tucker had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Longhorns, who have won 12 of 13 games, shot 51 percent (31-of-61). Iowa State (H: 12-1 SU, 7-3 ATS) suffered their worst loss of the season this week when they lost to Kansas State 90-59. Kansas State built a big early lead and never looked back, shooting 56 percent in the first 20 minutes to take a 47-25 halftime lead. Iowa State had 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game, and the Wildcats capitalized. They went on a 9-0 run to start the game. Jackson Vroman led Iowa State with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Curtis Stinson scored 16 points. IS is a guard oriented offense with Vromen getting some inside play. The Longhorns are more well balanced. A year ago Texas won their third straight over Iowa State 70-50. The trend continues.

Check back later for the Mid-day Action!!!

Allstar, I guess two out of three plays in agreement is better than being opposite on all three. Good Luck to you today and keep them profits rolling on in like you have been consistantly been doing. BTW, I was just curious as I saw a post where you said that you worked for a company that bought your writeups. I was curious in finding out how I could get into something like that. Can you send me some information about being able to maybe pursue an employment into your industry, or maybe some leads to direct me in the right direction. My email address is achievepcsd@yahoo.com. Thanks for your assistance. Gl again and Aloha my friend.

Best of luck with your card as I like Penn State play though we are on opposite sides of Texas/Iowa State. You might want to take a look at Ark Little Rock (see my seperate post). Best of luck.

10 Units Va Common -9.5 -104 (WON)
blueguy.gif

Tough spot for the home team. VCU is one game behind Drexel for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association, so they will be primed to play hard here. The Virginia-Commonwealth Rams (15-7) have won 6 of 8 games behind a great 'D' and a tough frontcourt of 6’-6”, 300-lb senior center Troy Godwin (10 ppg, 7 rebounds pg) and 6’-6” sophomore Nick George (5 rpg), while senior point guard Domonic Jones (17 ppg) runs the break. VCU holds teams to 41% shooting, and poor Towson can't score, shooting just 40% from the field while averaging 61 ppg. Towson (6-16) is a young team led by 6’-7” sophomore Lawrence Hamm (11 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and they've lost 7 in a row. These teams already played on January 28 and Towson got smoked 101-76 at VCU!!!

5 Units Auburn +2 -107 (LOST)
icon_mad.gif

This game should be interesting only because Auburn is a horrendous Road team (0-5 SU). Auburn is coming off a week’s rest after a nice Home victory against Georgia, 57-54 SU. Ole Miss (11-9 SU, 7-8 ATS) is looking to rebound after getting pumped by SEC West front-runner Mississippi State 80-56 SU. Mississippi plays much better at Home where 10 of their 11 wins have come (10-3 SU). Auburn struggles mightily on the Road, only averaging 55 points a game. In addition, they are allowing 70 points a game to their opponents. Ole Miss plays good defense at Home, only permitting 57 points a game. The glaring advantage for Ole Miss’ opponents is that Mississippi is the worst rebounding team in the SEC (27 rpg). In fact, Auburn out-rebounds Ole Miss by 7 rebounds a game. In their first match-up, Auburn pounded Ole Miss, 80-53 SU. In that game, Auburn out-rebounded Ole miss 39-19. This will be tough for Ole Miss to correct without adding Shaquille O’Neal. Auburn’s Marco Killingsworth (14 ppg, 6 rpg) had 16 points in the first game and should show up big.

5 Units Oregon -1 -107 (WON)
blueguy.gif

Pac 10 battle between run-and-gun Oregon (78 ppg) against slow-down Washington State (57 ppg allowed). Oregon shoots 49% from the field, while Washington State shoots just 40%! Luke Jackson scored 24 points and Oregon (R: 3-5 SU, 4-4 ATS) overcame a second-half deficit to beat rival Oregon State 81-74 last Saturday, but fell at Washington on Thursday, 83-74. The Ducks (11-7, 6-5 Pac 10) have won five of their last eight games, led by Ian C****white. Washington State (11-11) has won 3 of 5, which included a 60-51 over USC last week and a 65-58 home loss to Oregon State on Thursday. WSU has 11 wins this season, a four-win improvement from last season under first-year mentor Dick Bennett. This season the Cougars are the best defensively in the conference, allowing just 57.0 points per outing. The defense never rests under Bennett, but Oregon won handily 60-45 a month ago. The team that can score should get the 'W'.

Late action will be up shortly,

5 Units New Mexico State +5 +100 (SU WINNER)
blueguy.gif

The two worst teams in the Sun Belt West meet here. South Alabama wins with its backcourt and slow-down defense (57 ppg allowed at home), while New Mexico State has a strong talented team that should be scoring more than its 61 ppg on the road. New Mexico State has 6’-8” senior James Moore (15 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and 6’-6” senior Kelsey Crooks (6 rpg) up front while 6’-6” sophomore guard Duane John (15 ppg) is a strong scorer. But New Mexico State gets outscored by a 70-61 average on the road, though they have been playing better the last few weeks. South Alabama lacks height and allows opponents to shoot 47%!!! South Alabama is led by 6'-6" senior Malerick Bedden (13 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and 6'-6" Richard Law. When these teams met last month, South Alabama pulled the upset, 56-46, at New Mexico State. This should be a close, low scoring game and don't be surprised if the visitors steal a road win.

7 Units Arizona St -5.5 +100 (LOST)
icon_eek.gif

The Trojans (R: 4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS) have lost 6 of 7 following a 97-70 loss to Arizona Thursday. 6'-5" Desmon Farmer (20 ppg, 5 rpg) leads the way for and the Trojans. Farmer had 40 points the first time they played Arizona, but was held to just 11 points on 4-of-15 shooting on Thursday in Arizona's rematch win. The Wildcats shot a torrid 68 percent in the second half (19-of-28), while limiting the Trojans to just 27 percent (9-of-34). Gregg Guenther led USC (9-12, 7-13 ATS) with 17 points. The Trojans turned the ball over 21 times. The Sun Devils (Home: 8-5 SU, 2-9 ATS), snapped a four game losing streak when they capped a second-half rally with a 74-62 win over UCLA on Thursday night. Ike Diogu had 27 points and 13 rebounds. Stevie Moore added 14 points for the Sun Devils (9-12, 3-9 Pac-10). Arizona State finally got some scoring help for Diogu on Thursday and won the first meeting with USC 100-85 on the road. This time around they even have the home court and USC plays no defense (47% shooting allowed).

7 Units UL Lafayette -4 -104 (LOST)
icon_eek.gif

The match-up says....take the visitors!!! What Louisiana Lafayette brings to the table is a very strong road team (7-1 ATS start on the road) and a big frontcourt. They will be able to control the boards this game against a backcourt-oriented New Orleans team. La Lafayette shoots 47% behind their big frontcourt of 6’-11”, 250-lb sophomore Chris Cameron, 6'-6" junior Brian Hamilton (11 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6’-5” senior Brad Boyd (13 ppg). The New Orleans Privateers are a guard-oriented team behind shooting guard Kyle Buggs (11 ppg, 37% FGs) and 6'-2" senior Johnell Smith (14 ppg, 38% FGs). Lafayette has won the last three meetings between these teams, scoring 78, 79 and 85 points. When they met last month, Lafayette won 85-64 at home over New Orleans and their big frontcourt will control the game from start to finish again.

7 Units Depaul -4.5 -107 (WON)
blueguy.gif

DePaul (R: 5-4 SU, ATS) has won 7 of 8 following a narrow 70-68 win over St. Louis this week. Delonte Holland made five free throws in the final 57 seconds, sparking DePaul, down by 21 in the first half. Holland led DePaul with 17 points and made 8 of 9 free throws. Quemont Greer and Drake Diener each scored 14 points. DePaul shot 63 percent in the second half after shooting 38 percent in the first half. Houston continues to find winning too formidable a task, having lost six of seven. Tulane logged a 77-63 win over Houston Wednesday night. Andre Owens led Houston with 23 points and Aaron Anderson added 10. Both Anderson and Owens grabbed eight rebounds. Teams heading in opposite directions, home fans head to the campus pubs early!!!
